Mature Hedging

Here at Hyland’s Nursery we specialize in growing Mature Hedging in our 20 acre Nursery. The main evergreen, Mature Plants, we grow are: Griselinia, Portuguese Laurel and Cherry Laurel. They are lifted from the field on request and are wrapped in hessian cloth to protect the roots on the rootball and to keep the rootball intact. You plant with the hessian on as it will biodegrade into the soil once planted. The main rootball sizes we grow are 4-5ft, 5-6ft and 7-8ft tall, all offering perfect height and instant coverage.
Portuguese Laurel Hedging – (Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia) is a slower growing variety of the Portuguese Laurel plant. It has a narrower upright habit with smaller tighted dark green leaves and tinted red stems. Adapts well in different soil types and is ideal for an attractive formal hedge. Can grow up to 6m in height.
Cherry Laurel Hedging – (Prunus Caucasica) is a fast growing evergreen hedge. Laurel can take regular trimming. Cherry Laurel prefers good free draining soil. This is the most common Laurel used for hedging. It has large shiny leaves and candles of small flowers in April (if not pruned). Left unpruned this Cherry Laurel Hedging will reach 8m. It will grow well in any reasonable soil but the site should be well drained.
Griselinia Hedging – (Griselinia Littoralis) is a dense attractive evergreen hedging plant. Originally from New Zealand with glossy, apple green, leathery leaves. It is an excellent hedging plant for seaside exposure and responds well to trimming to shape and establishes quickly. It can reach 8m in height.
