Very large and tall tree which can live up to a 1000 years, suitable for large gardens. The bark is pale grey in colour with deep ridges. Leaves are lobed and green in summer turning a reddish-green in autumn. Both the male catkins and female flowers are inconspicuous. Flowers appear in May and are followed by the acorn fruit.
