Prunus Shirotae
PRUNUS SHIROTAE
Prunus Shirotae: Common Name: Japanese flowering cherry. Genus: Prunus. Cultivar: ’Shirotae’. Exposure: Full sun. Soil type: Any reasonable soil. Height: 6m. Spread: 8m.
Prunus ‘Shirotae’ was formerly known as ‘Mount Fuji’, ‘Hosokawa’ and ‘Kojima’. It is similar to ‘Shogetsu’, but flowers much earlier, almost finishing before the latter starts to bloom. A spreading, low-crowned tree, it has arching branches that sometimes reach the ground. It is a distinctive and appealing sight in April, when the branches are covered with the long-stalked clusters of very large blooms, clear brilliant white and almost fully double.
